Virginia s a Senior Scientist in the Bloorview Research Institute, Toronto, Canada and Associate Professor (status) in the Department of Physical Therapy and eeh Rehabiltation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto. She currently holds the Bloorview Children’s Hospital Foundation Chair in Paediatric Rehabilitation (2012–2017). She is also an associate member of CanChild Centre for Disability Research at McMaster University, Hamilton, a connection of more than 20 years that has been instrumental to the development and knowledge translation aspect of her research. Virginia's program of pediatric rehabilitation-based research focuses on outcome measurement development/validation and related physical activity-based intervention studies, with a particular interests in research related to cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury. Over the last three years she has expanded this focus with her U of T RSI graduate students and collaborators at SickKids Hospital,Toronto into the directly-linked field of motor learning/neuroplasticity. Two years ago, Virginia established the SPARK Lab (Supporting Physical Activity and Rehabilitation research for Kids) in the Bloorview Research Institute, and all of the projects/initiatives and trainees/staff described in her HOlland Bloorview webpage http://research.hollandbloorview.ca/ResearchCentresLabs/SPARK%20Lab are linked within this Lab. Virginia currently holds two CIHR grants as CoPI (an RCT comparing a robotic gait intervention with best practice gait-based PT and a longitudinal evaluation of life satisfaction trajectories in youth with disabilities), and holds several other sources of funding to support her Igniting Fitness Possibilities research project initiatives with CoPI Dr K Arbour-Nicitopoulos.
