Dr. Benchimol received a Bachelor's of Science in genetics from York University, his MD degree from the University of Western Ontario and his pediatric residency at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). From 2005-2009, he completed clinical and research fellowships in pediatric gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel diseases at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. At the same time, he completed a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto and was supported by a CCHCSP Doctoral Award. Since 2010, Dr. Benchimol has been a clinician-scientist in the Division of Gastroenterology at CHEO. He is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology and University of Ottawa, and is Director of the Health Information Technology Program at the CHEO Research Institute. As a Core Scientist at ICES uOttawa, he focuses on conduct epidemiology and health services research using routinely collected health data. He chairs the Canadian Gastro-Intestinal Epidemiology Consortium (cangiec.ca) and is co-Chair of the RECORD Steering Committee (record-statement.org).
