CCHCSP 1st ever Twitter Chat! Oct4th, 2016 – 9pm EST

CCHCSP Hosts its First Twitter Chat on “Launching Your Research Career” for Budding Clinician-Scientists

For over a decade, the (http://www.cchcsp.org or @CCHCSP on Twitter) has worked to develop the careers of health care professionals interested in pursuing a research-intensive job profile. However, in the era of research funding cut-backs and university budget constraints, clinician-scientists face unique challenges. CCHCSP is expanding the discussion and professional guidance to all junior clinician-scientists by hosting its first-ever Twitter chat on the pressing issues facing the field in 2016. The chat will happen online on Tuesday October 4^th from 9-10 pm EST, using the hashtag #CCHCSP

The Twitter chat will be hosted by Dr. Eric Benchimol (@ericbenchimol) from CHEO and Dr. Christine Chambers (@drcchambers) from the IWK Health Centre, and will include special guest Dr. Jim Woodgett (@jwoodgett) of the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Sinai Health System. The Twitter chat will touch on many aspects of conducting research in an academic clinical environment. It will be interactive and open to all interested parties, whether clinical researcher, basic scientist, young or old, trainee or graduated.

During the #CCHCSP Twitter chat we will tackle the following topics/questions:

Q1, What advice do you have for early career researchers when it comes to applying for funding? #CCHCSP

Q2. How should early career researchers go about prioritizing their time with so many competing demands? #CCHCSP

Q3. What can early career researchers do to enhance their productivity? #CCHCSP

Q4. What role does mentorship play in supporting early career success? #CCHCSP

Q5. How important is networking for early career health researchers? #CCHCSP

Q6. What strategies can be applied to ensure equity and diversity in health research? #CCHCSP

The conversation will flow organically along these themes to the topics attendees wish to discuss, and will hopefully spark future collaborative efforts toward professional development of clinician-scientists. CCHCSP has already integrated these important issues into their formal curriculum, presented to approximately 100 trainees on an annual basis. Expanding the discussion on social media allows for those outside of the regular training program to provide insight and expertise.
