BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Susan Samuel is a Clinician Scientist and Pediatric Nephrologist at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, in Calgary, Canada. She is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary. She received her undergraduate medical degree from the University of British Columbia and completed her postgraduate medical training in pediatrics and nephrology at SickKids Hospital in Toronto. She completed her MSc degree with specialization in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto. She was supported by salary awards from the and Kidney Research Scientist Core Education and National Training Program (KRESCENT) of the Kidney Foundation of Canada during the New Investigator period. Her research goals are to improve care and outcomes of children with kidney disease and kidney failure. She leads the multi-centre Canadian Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome Project, a major national initiative to improve care of children with nephrotic syndrome. She also leads a multi-disciplinary provincial researchteam to improve transition to adult care within Alberta, Canada. She serves on various local and national committees to enhance child health and kidney research, including serving as an Associate Editor of the Canadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease. Her research projects are funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the Kidney Foundation of Canada and Nephcure Kidney International. She has received awards for her research and community contributions – including the University of Calgary Petro Canada Community Innovator Award, Top 40 under 40 Award from Avenue Magazine, and BMO Endowed Research Award in Healthy Living.
