BIOGRAPHY

Deryk Beal is a clinician-scientist in the Bloorview Research Institute at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and an assistant professor in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is also a certified speech-language pathologist in Ontario and the United States. Dr. Beal completed his doctoral studies at the University of Toronto as a SickKids Clinician-Scientist Training Program Fellow from 2006-2010. He pursued advanced training in neuroimaging of the neural network for motor control and language at Boston University and the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital. He started his academic career as a professor in the Faculty for Rehabilitation at the University of Alberta in 2012 before moving to Toronto in 2015. Dr. Beal is conducting research on the development of the neural networks for motor control and language in children with acquired brain injury and neurodevelopmental disorders. His work uses tools such magnetic resonance imaging, transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct current stimulation and clinical trial design to develop and test novel treatments for children’s rehabilitation.
